Movie and Music

For the pop music portion of RHS's Spring Concert, we are saluting music in the movies...and so I ask this question:

What is your favorite song from the movies?

The one I think of right away (there are probably others too) is "Fallen" by Lauren Wood from "Pretty Woman." It's played in the scene when Richard Gere's and Julia Roberts' characters are boarding his private jet, dressed in evening clothes for the opera in San Francisco where they're flying -- an entirely romantic, moment that is perfection.

Most of my favorite "songs" in movies are the actual score itself. There are moments in Braveheart and Last of the Mohicans, for example, where the background music affected my emotions so much more than the scene itself. I sing "Edelweiss" to Nicholas every night. Does that count? :-)

The score for "Great Expectations" is AMAZING. One of my favorite albums.

Sorry, I don't mean "score," I mean soundtrack.

Hm, despite however cliche this may be, I would have to say Come What May from Moulin Rouge and/or the Tango de Roxanne from Moulin Rouge. Both have quite a bit of emotion to them...and needless to say Ewan McGregor is quite the specimen.

Black Roses Red- Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Unwritten(same movie)
Closer to You(same movie)

ruth, i laugh with delight!! I agree that scores/soundtracks put the question into a whole new level...and when it comes to Hans Zimmer, don't even get Garland started. (He thinks Hans was robbed from an Oscar, but right now I can't remember for which movie)

turner, we need to add Moulin Rouge to our next pj classic movie day at my house, because that's one i haven't seen! i think the two films need to be that and singin' in the rain (for kelly)

you all are better than me for even having one in mind...i've been thinking about what my response would be throughout the day! :) I'll post a comment when i've figured it out!

Well, I keep coming back to my classic favorite. Casablanca has wooed me since I first saw it in high school, and of course the song most connected with it must be my obvious choice: "As Time Goes By".

Any RHS students planning on auditioning with it?

Best SONG? Mrs. Robinson/Sound of Silence from The Graduate.

Best SCORE? Mark Knopfler for The Princess Bride (that main theme has stayed with me since I was a kid), or the Indiana Jones theme. ;)

Oh goodness, so here I am, almost one in the morning, having to immediately post this because I just thought of a classic movie song. Count your Blessings from White Christmas, or anything from White Christmas for that matter! Mrs. Munger, how did we, of all people, forget this? haha.

my wife would say the score from Last of the Mohicans. and i second Pete's discernment of The Graduate and that lovable theme from Princess Bride.

my more cultured (and sentimental) self says that Casablanca's As Time Goes By is unbeatable.

but even so, every time i hear Huey Lewis & The News' Power of Love i'm in a 1980s nirvana where Michael J. Fox is God Of Skateboards And Time Travel.

also, Kenny Logins' Highway To The Danger Zone makes me want to get a fast motorcycle and play volleyball on the beach in nothin but tight jeans and avaitor shades.

My mind always goes blank when I have to come up with something like this so when Donica helped me (she knows me), it was an immediate YES: Wind Beneath My Wings in "Beaches." But the Somewhere In Time theme is also one of my favorites.

Another one I just thought of: the soundtrack from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Those sticks! You can just see them flying and fighting.

Well!!! Hands down, from MY generation (I'm a-guessin'!!)..... my pick has to be "Somewhere My Love" from Dr. Zhivago. Yes, I know....there have been MANY great movies over time, but I get that "haunted" feeling all over again right now as I am writing and remembering that incredible movie (from the mid-1960's for those a little younger than me.... :).

Now, the big question to Mrs. M.: Did I give you the answer that you "just knew I would?" Ha! I'm so glad to be predictable (sometimes....). And, thanks for the soundtrack a couple yrs. ago! I love you, Mom.

The score from "Hero" is amazing!

I had a recent rendez-vous with "The Black Stallion," and was surprised to find that there are hardly any words at all- mostly music- if you haven't seen that movie in 20 years- check it out from the library- I think you'll be amazed at how beautiful it is once again!

Swede's favorite movie score is from "The Hours." He is so funny, every now and then, he'll just pop that movie in and watch the intro... first comes the music... and then, "Mrs. Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself." He just loves to watch that!
